Kindergarten Registration is Now Open

Welcome to <a href="https://www.limestone.on.ca/kindergarten-early-learning" class="editor-link">Kindergarten in Limestone</a>. If your student was born in 2022, now is the time to <a href="https://www.limestone.on.ca/registration" class="editor-link">register your new student</a> to start school this September.Kindergarten is a wonderful new world of learning and growing and a very exciting time for both you and your student. We learn how to read, how to write and we make so many new friends. Our educator teams of a teacher and early childhood educator, help us along the way. Limestone welcomes all students, promoting and encouraging families to attend their area school, but we understand that it is best interest of some students to attend an out-of-boundary school and that selecting the right educational setting for your new student is a significant decision.Selecting an out-of-boundary school for your new student is a decision influenced by many factors. The school may be closer to a workplace or near a childcare provider that might be more convenient for drop-off and pick-up routines. In accordance with board policy, by default, students will be enrolled in the school designated within their boundary area, based on their home address.We aim to accommodate family preferences, but please note that out-of-boundary placements are not guaranteed, and families will be responsible for organizing transportation to and from out-of-boundary schools.Students may be permitted to attend any school within the board when there is available student space, upon submission and approval of the proper application. The board will not be held responsible for the provision of any transportation for students outside of their regular school boundary area. This applies to both students within Limestone’s geographic boundaries (out-of-boundary), and students who live outside of those boundaries (out-of-district).   We are committed to supporting you every step of the way. It was a bit of a soft landing post holiday start within the LDSB catchment area with 3 snow days (2 for Kingston schools) at the beginning of last week. Thursday was a very happy day as Southview is not truly a school until the young people are in the building. All of the staff were remarking that it felt really good to finally see our students after more than two weeks away, and to begin the process of getting back into a routine.We are thrilled to announce that our new Vice Principal, Ms. Allison Gladu, started at Southview on January 5, 2026. She is fitting into our community beautifully and has spoken openly about how welcoming the school has been and about the positive vibe in the hallways and classrooms. Please feel free to stop into the main office when you are here, to introduce yourself to Allison!Our athletics program is in full swing after the break with two sports calling for athletes wanting to participate on our highly competitive teams. The tryout processes for both basketball and floor hockey are just getting started and coaches are planning to attend both exhibition games and tournaments through the month of February. Go Lynx!An exciting dramatic opportunity is happening at Southview PS in the early Spring! Ms. Zwiers is producing and directing the play "Wild Robot" to be presented on April 10th, 2026. All students from Grades 3-8 were offered the opportunity to participate and those who chose to showcase their acting talents will be practising twice per week to get ready for their big day. Thank you to Ms. Zwiers and her team of volunteers, for undertaking this fantastic opportunity on behalf of our students! We are looking forward to this performance!All of our educators are beginning to prepare report cards for distribution on February 13th, 2026. Dear Families,I hope this message finds you well as we approach the end of the last school week of 2025 and the upcoming holiday season.  I wanted to share a few updates with you before we head into the Winter Break:EQAO ResultsThe Ministry of Education recently released the 2024-2025 Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) results, and we are proud to share that Limestone achieved its strongest performance in four years, with gains across every testing category.Limestone’s results align with provincial outcomes in many areas and show notable improvements in others, including among specific student groups. In fact, Limestone’s performance is at or above the provincial average in nearly all measures.These accomplishments reflect the collective efforts of Limestone’s educators, Educational Assistants, program teams, and school leaders—along with the commitment and support of students and families across the district. Our transportation partner, Tri-Board Student Transportation Services (Tri-Board), works closely with school bus companies to determine whether it is safe to operate on days with adverse weather.School buses function differently than family vehicles, and sometimes, even when roads seem safe for cars, conditions are not suitable for buses. Given the geographic size of our district, weather can vary significantly from one region to another. Our Southview PS Volleyball Teams were super busy last week, competing very successfully in tournaments across the LDSB. Our Senior Girls Team showed amazing sportsmanship and great growth while participating in some hard fought and tight battles during their full day event last Tuesday December 2, 2025. We are incredibly proud of our Senior Girls! The Senior Boys demonstrated wonderful determination by finishing second in their pool by winning three of their four matches on Wednesday December 3rd, 2025. Well done to these terrific athletes! Our Junior Girls and Boys Teams travelled north to compete in the Candy Cane Classic on Friday December 5th, 2025! Both teams showed their class and potential by winning all of their games! Southview has a promising future in the sport of volleyball! Congratulations to all athletes and coaches! Go Lynx!Southview PS participated in the annual Jingle Bell Walk event which which took place on Friday December 12th, 2025. This year, we are supporting Napanee Morning Star Mission and the response to our request for food donations has been overwhelming. We are proud of the contribution Southview is making to the families in the Napanee area. Congratulations to Ms. Chapman's Grade 3/4 class who all pulled together to contribute 441 food items to support families over the holiday! Ms. Chapman's class has won the class Pizza Party! Thank you to everyone for your generosity!Thank you to SAC for organizing a well attended and super movie evening (The Grinch) for our families on Friday December 5th, 2025! Not only did it help eveyone get into the holiday spirit but it also raised almost $500 to support our school and students. A big shout out to Amanda Morrison and her team who organized this terrfici event! Great job, everyone!Yesterday, SAC ran a very successful Holiday Craft Fair for the entire student body. The feedback from staff and students was overwhelmingly positive with many using the phrase "best day yet in December!". The overall vibe was extremely festive and everyone enjoyed the day immensely! Thank you to our incredibly competent Grade 7/8 leaders who helped make the day so successful. A huge shout out to Melissa Meisner who took the helm for this year's event and to all of the parents that contributed to this enormous undertaking! On Monday December 15th, 2025, our Grade 1 classes are collaborating to host an Open House for all families scheduled to run from 5 - 6 p.m. The Grade 1 students and staff are looking forward to welcoming their families to the school for an evening of holiday celebration. On Thursday December 18th, 2025, the Kindergarten classes are coordinating a Holiday Concert for families to begin at 2:15 p.m. in the gym. Limestone’s EQAO Results Improve Across All Categories

The Limestone District School Board (LDSB) has achieved its strongest Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) performance in four years, with gains in every testing category for the 2024-2025 school year. LDSB’s EQAO results align with provincial outcomes in many areas, while showing notable improvements in others and among specific student groups. Limestone’s 2024-2025 results are at, or above, the provincial average in almost all measures. Results show an upward trend and momentum across all eight areas of assessment for students in Grades 3, 6, 9, and 10, including those with special education needs, underscoring the Board’s intention of making a positive difference in the lives of every student, in every classroom, in every school.    "These results reflect the daily dedication of Limestone educators, educational assistants, program teams, and school leaders,” says Krishna Burra, LDSB Director of Education. “I want to acknowledge the efforts of those who have focused on implementing evidence-informed practices, providing targeted supports, and collaborating across schools to ensure student achievement and success.” The elementary school report provides assessments of Reading, Writing, and Mathematics written by students in Grades 3 and 6. The secondary school report provides similar information relating to the Grade 9 Assessment of Mathematics and the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT). <h2 class="editor-heading-h2" dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;">Results at a Glance </h2><ul class="editor-list-ul"><li value="1" class="editor-listitem" dir="ltr">Grade 3 Improvements: LDSB students showed a 5% to 8% increase in Reading, Writing, and Math, with 75% meeting the provincial standard in Reading, 65% in Writing, and 65% in Math, outperforming provincial averages. Students with special education needs improved by 8% to 9% in these subjects.  </li><li value="2" class="editor-listitem" dir="ltr">Grade 6 Gains: Achievement rose in all areas, with 88% meeting Reading standards, 87% in Writing, and 51% in Math, matching or exceeding provincial rates. Students with special education needs made significant advances, especially in Writing with a 22% increase.  </li><li value="3" class="editor-listitem" dir="ltr">Grades 9 and 10 Results: LDSB’s Grade 9 Math scores were slightly below provincial levels but increased by 5% from the previous year, with students with special education needs performing better than students with similar needs in other jurisdictions. The Grade 10 OSSLT saw 95% participation and 84% success, a 3% rise, with continued improvement among students with special education needs.   </li></ul><h2 class="editor-heading-h2" dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;">Grade 3 EQAO Results </h2>Grade 3 student achievement saw a 5% to 8% increase in all subject areas in Limestone, compared to the 2023/24 assessment results, with 75% meeting the provincial standard in Reading, 65% in Writing, and 65% in Math.  Results for the province showed a slight increase from the previous year for all Grade 3 subjects and were slightly lower than Limestone across Grade 3 assessment subjects.  This new data shows improvement in all subjects, with Math achievement showing the most significant difference for students in Grade 3.  Of significant note are the gains in achievement in Grade 3 Reading, Writing, and Mathematics made by Limestone students with special education needs – up 9%, 8%, and 9% respectively, compared to the 2023/24 assessment results.  <h2 class="editor-heading-h2" dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;">Grade 6 EQAO Results </h2>Grade 6 student achievement in Limestone also continues to build momentum with improvements in all subject areas.  In Reading, 88% of students met provincial standard in 2024/25 – an increase of 9% from the 2023/24 assessment and a higher rate than the province for 2024/25.  Results in Writing showed an increase of 14% over the previous assessment year, with 87% of students meeting provincial standard, at a higher rate than the province.  In Math, results were equal to the province, with 51% of students meeting the provincial standard, an increase of 11% for Limestone compared to the previous assessment year.  Like the Grade 3 assessment results, achievement in all subject areas for students in Grade 6 with special education needs in Limestone has increased, with significant gains in Reading and Writing by 12% and 22%, respectively, since the 2023/24 assessment. This increase in achievement for students in Grade 6 with special education needs is higher than the province by 3% to 10% across all subject areas.  “Limestone students and staff have worked hard to achieve these gains across Reading, Writing, and Mathematics, including the strong improvements for students with special education needs,” says Burra. “The momentum we are seeing is the result of consistent, evidence‑informed practice—targeted instruction, early interventions, collaborative professional learning, and a sharp focus on what happens in classrooms every day. “We are proud of this progress, and we are committed to sustaining it by continuing the practices that work and adjusting where they do not,” he adds. “Our goal remains steady improvement over time, not one‑year spikes, for every student, in every classroom, in every school.” <h3 class="editor-heading-h3" dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;">Primary Assessment (administered in Grade 3): </h3><table class="editor-table" style="width: 100%; Literacy is a shared responsibility across subjects, and we will keep pairing explicit instruction with targeted supports so every learner can demonstrate success.” Students in all publicly funded schools in Ontario are required to write provincial assessments, administered by EQAO, a provincial body that tests students’ skills in Literacy in Grades 3, 6, and 10 and Math skills in Grades 3, 6, and 9 in relation to Ontario curriculum expectations. Successful completion of the Literacy requirement is one of the requirements to earn an Ontario Secondary School Diploma. The EQAO assessments have undergone significant updates, with the newer digital assessments offered entirely online through a digital platform for students over the past four years.   “The dedication of Limestone educators, educational assistants, program team members, and school leaders will remain foundational to continued efforts moving forward,” says Burra.

There are many events happening at the community, school and classroom level and we are doing our best through social media (SAC Facebook Page), school newletters (What's Happening at Southview PS) and classroom newsletters to keep you well informed. Please feel free to connect with the school at any time for more information!Our Southview PS athletes will be in action over the next week as the Volleyball season is in full swing! Our Senior Boys are attending a tournament next Tuesday at Kingston Secondary School while our Senior Girls travel to La Salle Secondary School for a competition next Wednesday. On Friday, our Junior Boys and Girls are travelling to North Addington Education Centre for a day of competition. This is the first tournament for our Junior Girl's Team. Good luck to all athletes and coaches! Go Lynx!Southview PS will be participating in the annual Jingle Bell Walk event which will take place on Friday December 12th, 2025. This year, we will be supporting Napanee Morning Star Mission and are asking students to bring in a non-perishable food item to donate to this worthy organization. On December 12th, all students will be given a Jingle Bell to take with them as we participate in a 1 km walk around the perimeter of the school. We might even encourage some carolling as we walk! The class that collects the most items will win a pizza party for their whole group! A list of some priority items is provided in the graphic below! Thank you in advance for your generosity!The Student Census and the Scholastic Book Fair took place at the school during the week of November 24-28, 2025. There was a lot of excitement around the Scholastic Book Fair event with students creating wish lists and making purchases. The Family Night held on Wednesday November 26, 2025 was extremely well attended with lots of excited parents and students choosing books to read at home. Hosting the Scholastic Book Fair not only benefits our students but also our school as a whole. We are earning points (based on sales) which have been allocated to classes and departments across the school and are being used to purchase class and subject related reading materials for our students! A huge shout out to Susanne Sheffield who organized the event on behalf of Southview PS. Thank you so much, Susanne, and all of the family volunteers who assisted to make the fair so successful!Edge Imaging will be attending Southview PS on Friday December 5th, 2025 to take photo re-takes for those students who missed out on November 7th or for those who would like a re-do! We have decided to trial using class composites instead of class photos this year. Limestone District School Board Chair and Vice-Chair Elected for 2025-2026

<img src="/images/3b73f535-6db0-57a4-bb4f-a5bb6232f53e?fingerprint=ppb20251217013553" alt="" width="349" height="452" style="width:349px;height:452px;display:inline-block"> <img src="/images/02ea62dd-f2f2-5bdf-8bf4-95704c83d5d1?fingerprint=ppb20251217013025" alt="" width="349" height="452" style="width:349px;height:452px;display:inline-block">Chair Karen McGregor (left) and Vice-Chair Tiffany Lloyd Limestone District School Board (LDSB) Chair Karen McGregor was re-elected to the role, and Trustee Tiffany Lloyd was elected to Vice-Chair at the Annual Meeting of the Board November 19, 2025. Trustees elect a Chair and Vice-Chair each year of their four-year mandate. Chair McGregor, who has been Chair since June 2025, represents LDSB schools in the Townships of Central Frontenac, Addington Highlands, and North Frontenac.  “Trustees play a critical role as a bridge between the communities we serve and the Board, ensuring that families have a direct channel to raise local concerns, seek guidance and influence decisions that affect their children's education,” says Chair McGregor. “I am honoured to be re-elected as Chair for the coming year, to work with a Board of Trustees determined to make a positive difference in the lives of every student in our district.” Vice-Chair Lloyd represents LDSB schools in the Town of Greater Napanee. "I’m honoured to serve as Vice-Chair, and I’m grateful for my colleagues’ confidence,” says Vice-Chair Lloyd. “I look forward to working together as we support our schools, listen to our communities, and make decisions that truly benefit the students and families we serve." Trustees will be selecting the committees they wish to serve on next week at the Nominations Committee Meeting Monday, November 24, 2025.

Choices at 7 Program Information

The Limestone District School Board's Choices at 7 programs offer opportunities for students entering Grade 7 to participate in a variety of unique learning environments. Depending on the availability of places in the programs, students currently in Grade 7 may also apply to join a program for their Grade 8 year. The Choices at 7 programs that are offered include: <ul class="editor-list-ul"><li value="1" class="editor-listitem">ATLAS (Applying Technology for Learning, Aptitude, and Success) </li><li value="2" class="editor-listitem">Challenge (Gifted and Academic Enrichment Program) </li><li value="3" class="editor-listitem">LEAP (Limestone Education through the Arts Program) </li><li value="4" class="editor-listitem">Extended French Immersion Program (for students entering Grade 7 only)</li></ul>If you are interested in finding out more about these programs, you are invited to attend the information nights that are being held at each site (dates and times are listed below).
