Growing, Learning and Achieving Together

Hello Lynx Families!

We officially have two months left of the school year and there are an amazing number of school events and activities being planned to take place over the next 8 weeks.

Our athletes are going to be especially busy in May and June. On May 1st, Southview's Junior and Senior Co-Ed. Dodgeball Teams will be participating in a tournament being held at Selby PS. The final teams have been chosen and both teams are spending time at nutrition breaks practicing for what promises to be a fast paced and hard fought competition. Good luck to our Dodgeball athletes and coaches. On Tuesday May 5th, the Junior Boys and Girls Basketball teams will be participating in their skills development competition. This promises to be a fun filled day for all athletes! On Monday May 4th, our Bantam and Senior runners will be participating in the 800 m qualifier for the Regional Track and Field competition to be held at the Invista Centre later in June. Additionally, on Wednesday May 6th, all three divisions (Atom, Bantam and Senior) will be competing to qualify for the Regional Track and Field Meet in the 1200 m race. Qualifications for all other Track and Field events will take place at school track and field competitions on May 13th (Atom) and 14th (Bantam and Senior). Good luck to all competitors! Our long distance runners will also have another opportunity to test their skills at the Hawk Run to take place on Tuesday May 12th at NDSS!

Outside of the athletic arena, Southview is looking forward to a number of exciting activities that involve our students participation! The BIG event this week is the Drama Club's production of their play "The Wild Robot"! Our thespian group have been practicing non-stop to prepare for their big day and the whole school is "over the moon" exicted. Performances take place on Wednesday April 29th at 12:15 p.m. and 2:15 p.m. and parents our welcome to attend! Thank you to our directors, Mrs. Zwiers and Mrs. Chapman! Our Skills Ontario 4-Person Team will be travelling to Toronto on May 3/4 to compete in their province-wide competition. This event is the culmination of a months long preparation period which invovled a huge win at the District competition which led to their qualificaiton for the provincial championships. We are incredibly proud of these four very capable individuals and their coach Mr. Gallupe and wish them every success next week! A huge thank you goes out to Aline LaRochelle who is organizing Southview's participation in the "Celebration of Dance" which will take place in our school gym on Wednesday May 6th. Southview will particpate with school across the LDSB in this annual event which celebrates our student's developing confidence and competence while promoting the philosophy of being active for life!

Academically, our Grade 3 and 6 students will begin their participation in the EQAO Assessment process which will run intermittently from May 5th until June 9th, 2026. We are proud of the our student's academic achievement and look forward to celebrating their accomplishments in the fall of 2026!

On May 28th, all students at Southview PS will be participating in the Jump Rope for Heart, Heart and Stroke Foundation fundraiser. Please see the information below and consider contributing to this worthwhile cause!

Just a reminder that our Grade 7 students will be participating in their second round of immunizations on May 4th, 2026.

Have a wonderful couple of weeks everyone and take some time to brief the info graphics below which contain information regarding fantastic opportunities of both students and parents/guardians!

The Grade 8 Transition to Secondary School

High School Transition

Dear Families and Students,

The move from Grade 8 to Grade 9 is an exciting milestone in a student’s educational journey. To help students transition smoothly to secondary school, an extensive planning process takes place between December and August.

December - February

March - June

July - August

  • Grade 8 information nights for families (schedule available online)
  • Grade 8 classroom visits
  • Course selection
  • Grade 8 visits to secondary schools
  • Transition meetings
  • Grade 8 Day/Tours
  • Timetables sent to students
  • Grade 9 Orientation/Tours

Students will be automatically transferred to their home secondary school based on their current elementary school. You can find your child’s designated secondary school by visiting the Tri-Board Eligibility Lookup triboard.mybusplanner.ca/Eligibility  and entering your home address.

Students who wish to attend a Limestone secondary school outside their designated home school area must first complete registration and course selection at their designated school.

Families should then contact the requested secondary school directly to apply. If the application is accepted, your student’s course selections will transfer to the new school. Students applying will be placed on a waitlist and may be admitted before the start of Grade 9 if space becomes available. Transportation is not provided for students not attending their designated school.

Families of students with exceptional learning needs are encouraged to connect with their elementary school team to discuss programming options and supports for the transition to high school.

The Limestone District School Board offers Choices at 9 programs including Academic Arts Enriched Program (AAEP), Advanced Placement Preparatory Program, International Baccalaureate, and Bayridge Computer Science Program (BCSP). If you have any questions about this process, please contact your student’s elementary school or the school location of the Choices at 9 program. See key application dates below:
