THE VIEW THIS WEEK AT SOUTHVIEW PS - WALKING FOR TERRY FOX

Hello Lynx Families!

It has been super wet this week and some of our recesses have had to take place indoors much to the chagrin of our student body who love to be outdoors. Fortunately, next week promises to be filled with sunny days and very seasonal temperatures. The perfect weather for Fire Drill practice! Lots has been happening around the school with both athletes and classes are busy in competition and with field trips.

Our Intermediate Baseball Teams competed in the Acadie Interschool competition on Friday October 9th, 2026 and our teams did extremely well. All Games were tightly contested with the Girl's Team celebrating a big win in one of their three games. The Boy's Team won two of their three games making it to the finals where they were narrowly defeated by a score of 3-2. Well done to all coaches and athletes for representing Southview with tremendous team spirit!

Our Cross Country Team and coaches represented Southview PS at the LESAA Race on October 14, 2026. Southview has a grand tradition in running races and this year proved to be no exception.

Congratulations to the following teams (top four runners) on their Regional Medals:

  • Atom Boys – Silver Medals
  • Atom Girls – Silver Medals
  • Bantam Girls– Bronze Medals
  • Senior Boys – Bronze Medals

In addition, thirty-two members of the team qualified at this competition earning the opportunity to compete at the District Finals on Tuesday October 20th, 2026. Good luck to all athletes and coaches! Go Lynx!

There is a lot to look forward to in the coming weeks as the Volleyball Tryouts have started consisting of weekly practices in the gym during the nutrition breaks. Also, the Drama Club is beginning to prepare for their production with practices and rehearsals being planned to take place during the weeks prior to the show which will open before the holiday break in December! The Grade 5 & 6 classes will be participating in a municipally sponsored field trip this week designed to explore the role of local government in Napanee. The field trip will take place on Thursday October 22, 2026!

Please remember that our School Photo Day will take place on Wednesday October 21st, 2026. Everyone should come equipped with their best smiles!

On Thursday October 15, 2026, Southview PS distributed Individual Education Plans to many of our students' families for review and feedback. These are considered working documents that may be revised throughout October and November and sent back out to some families as finished documents. This will happen over the course of the next few weeks. We are looking for family feedback on the plans developed for our students so that parent and guardian voices can be included! Please feel free to connect with your child's classroom teacher if you have any questions or suggestions regarding these important documents.

Southview is very proud of the contribution we have made towards the Terry Fox Foundation this year and have reached $ 2744.40 which includes the total from the donation website and the cash and cheque donations we have received. The whole school participated in the Terry Fox Walk/Run on Thursday October 8th, 2026. Thank you for your generosity and for supporting our effort to find a cure for cancer! A special congratulations goes out to Ms. Crouse's Grade 5 class who raised the most money as a group and will now play a Dodgeball game against the staff and administration on a date to be determined in the near future. Game on!

Dodgeball 2026

Also a congratulations goes out to Lorelei Saunders who earned the most money as an individual and now has the opportunity to put a "pie in the face" of the Principal of the school! A huge thank you and "shout out" to the students and Mme. St. Laurent who organized the fundraiser, the run itself and the opening assembly. Well done to all!

Our next School Advisory Council Meeting will take place on Wednesday October 21st, 2026 beginning at 5 p.m. Please consider coming out to this session, which will be held in the school library, to take part in discussions regarding important upcoming events in your child's school. The SAC committee is planning to host a Halloween Dance on the evening of Thursday October 22nd, 2026. Please see the poster below for further details!

Have a wonderful rest of the week everyone, and a fantastic couple of weeks ahead!

Thank you

A BIG THANK YOU TO MR. HOUARD!

We would like to take a moment to give a very special THANK YOU to Mr. Houard, a generous member of our Southview community. Mr. Houard has donated thousands of dollars worth of woodworking equipment and supplies over the years, including drills, nails, sandpaper, and so much more, to help support our students and their learning. He has also generously financed our Math Award at graduation, helping us celebrate and recognize the hard work and achievements of our students.

These donations make a real difference! When your children reach Grades 7 and 8 at Southview, they will have the opportunity to benefit from the equipment and experiences made possible by Mr. Houard's generosity.

So, if you happen to see Mr. Houard out in our community, please take a moment to say THANK YOU! We are incredibly grateful for his generosity and his belief in our students.
