Growing, Learning and Achieving Together

Hello Lynx Families!

The fall weather has been beautiful and the positive energy at Southview PS is inspiring. Recently, many of the parents and commuity members who have visited our school have commented on the happy buzz they have experienced and the quality of learning that is taking place. We have had a number of new students join our classes recently and all are impressed with the students and staff at the school in terms of the welcoming environment that has been provided to them from the very first day. Southview is truly a special place because of its people!

As the weather begins to rapidly change, please ensure that your children come to school with suitable attire. Also, many our young people leave clothes behind in many different places! We have gathered quite a collection of clothing and our lost and found box is overflowing!. Please have a look through this collection the next time you are in the school for articles of clothing that may have gone missing from your child's wardrobe. In order to prevent loss, labelling your children's clothing is highly recommended!

Volleyball Tryouts are continuing with weekly practices in the gym during the nutrition breaks in preparation for upcoming tournaments. Also, the Drama Club continues to prepare for their production with practices and rehearsals being planned to take place during the weeks prior to the show which will open after the holiday break in February! Field trips are continuing to happen with many classes visiting A Loveleigh Place in Napanee, while othersare getting very excited about participaing in a Frontenac's Hockey Game later next month. We have guest speakers attending Southview from the L&A Museum as part of curriculum project work in Social Studies and a motivational speaker working with our Grades 6-8 students in mid-November.

Honouring Remembrance Day is an important annual event at Southview Public School and we would like to take this opportunity to thank Mr. Babcock and his Grade 7/8 class for organizing this ceremony on behalf of the entire Southview community. The event will take place on Wendesday November 11th at approximately 10:45 a.m.

Please remember that our School Photo Day-Retakes will take place on Thursday November 12th, 2026. Re-takes are intended for those who missed the original day which took place this past week but also for those who would like an opportunity to have second go! We received the download codes for photo proofs and that information should be coming home with yur children today or Monday!

On November 13th, 2026, Southview PS will be distributing the Kindergarten Communication of Learning: Initial Observations and the Elementary Progress Reports to all families. The Kindergarten Communication of Learning and Progress Reports consist of a brief summary of how are students are doing in each of their subject areas. The reports are designed to start an early conversation between parents and teachers rather than act as a final evaluation. Please feel free to connect with the school if you have any questions about this process.

On Thursday November 19th from 10:45-11:15 a.m, Southview will be performing a practice of the Lockdown Emergency procedure. This drill is a termly event and is a regular part of all Ontario school's regular safety protocols and procedures. I have attached a letter with more information regarding this practice to the School Messenger email that announced this newsletter. While class teachers will discuss the drill with children prior to the event, it is always a good idea for parents to discuss this protocol with children to alleviate any anxiety regarding the practice. Please note that the school will be inaccessible during this half hour period. If your child has a planned appointment for that day, please ensure that you are dropping off or picking up outside of that 30 minute block. Thank you for your understanding as we carry out this important practice.

Our next School Advisory Council Meeting will take place on Wednesday November 25th, 2026 beginning at 5 p.m. Please consider coming out to this session, which will be held in the school library, to take part in discussions regarding important upcoming events in your child's school. Congratulations to SAC on the success of their first big fundraising event of the season, the annual Halloween dance! The Haunted Hop raised almost $2000 for the students of Southview PS! Well done to SAC and a huge thank you to the Grade 8 students who assisted in making this a fantastic family event for all!

Have a wonderful rest of the week everyone, and a fantastic couple of weeks ahead!

Have a happy and safe Halloween everyone!
