Growing, Learning, and Achieving Together

Hello Lynx Families!

We are now into the month of October and the fall season is in full swing. We are enjoying the weather during this first week of October and the weekend promises to be better yet. Over the period from October 6-9, the weather will change quickly and become much cooler in the second half of the week. As the weather fluctuates, we are also seeing an uptick in the number of students who are experiencing colds and low energy. Please ensure that your children are coming to school with apparel that is approrpriate for the weather. Layered clothing is best, but these extra layers are often removed during recess, and we are noticing that our Lost and Found box is overflowing. It is very helpful when clothes are labelled with children's first and last names so that we can return lost items to their owners! If your children are missing items, please feel free to locate our Lost and Found anytime you visit the school.

Our Soccer Teams competed extremely well this week with all athletes representing Southview PS with pride and showing a tremendous amount of sportmanship and team spirit. The boys team won all three of their games and were victorious in the second game after enduring a close shootout! Our girls team won one of their games and lost 2 others is well fought matches! Well done to all athletes and coaches. Our Intermediate Baseball team is in action this coming Wednesday October 8th, 2025. These athletes have been training hard, and we are excited for the opportunity to show off their skills next week! Good luck to all athletes and coaches!

We are making our way towards our fundraising goal of $4500 for the Terry Fox Foundation and have reached $1345 on our donation website. The whole school will be participating in the Terry Fox Walk/Run this coming Thursday October 9th, 2025. Please consider making a contribution by using the link provided in the Terry Fox section below. Thank you for your generosity and for supporting our effort to find a cure for cancer!

October 6-9 will be a short week within the LDSB community as we head into the Thankgiving Day long weekend. There will be no classes for students on Friday October 10th as the Southview Educator Team will be involved in a Professional Learning Day focussed on the Student Achievement Plan with an emphsis on how to close learning gaps and enhance ahievement in our students. We are looking forward to a very productive day with an incredibly motivated team!

A quick follow up announcement about our schoolyard. The Red and Blue play structure in the northeast corner of the campus has been removed and two other structures were fine tuned to increase their longevity. One of the many discussions that the School Advisory Committee will be engaged in is how we will plan to develop this area. We will provide more information about this project over the course of the school year.

Sunday October 5th, 2025 is "World Teacher's Day"! The Educator team at Southview PS is in a class of its own. Thank you to all staff for the committment and dedication you show towards the students and families at Southview PS!

We wish everyone a terrific weekend and a wonderful week ahead!

John Ricci, Jen Cole and the Southview Learning Team!

Terry Fox Run

SOUTHVIEW PS Runs For Terry Fox

October 9th, 2025

Southview Public School is proud to take part in the 2025 Terry Fox School Run!

Since 2013, Southview has participated in 12 runs and raised a total of $44, 227.95. This is a proud history!

This year we have set a goal to raise $4500 prior to run day to support cancer research. Instead of using Pledge Sheets, we ask our students to collect from family and friends. We would also like to encourage families to use the online donation site specifically set up for Southview Public School. The site can be found at the following link:

Southview Public School

Alternatively, students can collect donations and bring cash or cheques to the main office. Please make cheques payable to the Terry Fox Foundation.

Thank you in advance for your support of Southview Public School and its efforts to support cancer research!

All student absences should be reported through the SafeArrival system. Please do not call the school directly to report an absence. You can use the SchoolMessenger app, the Safe Arrival website, or the toll free number (1-855-257-9349) to record an absence.

LynxWe have partnered with a Specialty Trophies for our school clothing this year. Specialty Trophies is a local Kingston company which provides school apparel to many of the schools in our district. One of the big advantages of this company is that they will provide free shipping to the school! That will be a great savings to our families!
