Hello Lynx Families!
It has been a busy and challenging couple of weeks. Southview PS was required to undergo a reorganization process which reduced our number of classes from 26 to 25. This is not an easy undertaking and the implications are broad. We said good bye to some staff members this week as Ashley Glassford and Paige Mercanti were both moved to different schools. We would like to take to take this opportunity to thank Ms. Mercanti and Ms. Glassford for the enthusiasm and positivity they demonstrated in our school with students, their families and our staff. We wish them all the very best in their future roles at Loughborough and Holsgrove Public Schools respectively. We know that you will continue to thrive in your new environments! We are very pleased to welcome Ms. Sierra Darton to Southview Public School. Ms. Darton will be spending part of her day with the Prince Charles Public School and then travelling to Southview where she will contribute her experience and knowledge in one of our Grade 4 classrooms. Welcome, Ms. Darton! We would also like to announce that Ms. Melissa Michaud has moved from her previous position as Grade 5 educator to the Grade 1/2 classroom where she will serve as class teacher. Thank you Ms. Michaud for sharing your wealth of experience and skill with some of our youngest students! The following changes have also occured within the school:
- Ms. Anna McKinney's class has changed from a Grade 4 to a Grade 4/5 class
- Ms. Aline LaRochelle's class has changed from a Grade 6 to a Grade 5/6 class
- Ms. Jennifer Zwiers has become the lead educator in one of our Grade 4 classes
In addition, a few of our French educators have changed the classes that they are teaching. An updated staff list is available below for your reference.
Many of our students have had to move to a different class with a different teacher, and we are fully aware of how difficult this can be. On Friday September 18th, 2026, these students moved to their new classes and met with their teachers and peers. We could not have been more pleased with the growth mindset demonstrated by all of our young people. Well done to all of the Southview community for managing this process with and open mind and such optimism! Families of students who are experiencing change can expect to hear from their child's new teachers in the near future. Please join me in welcoming Ms. Liana Wilkinson to Southview Public School. Liana will be serving as one of the Office Administrators at Southview and comes to us from a role which provided her with expereinces at many different schools. Liana is settling in well at Southview PS, and we are excited to welcome her as an integral part of our team! Welcome to our community, Liana! We are thrilled you have joined us at Southview!
With mixed emotions and heavy hearts, we announce that Ms. Brenda Sproule will be leaving Southview PS at the end of next week!
Brenda has served as the Office Administrator at Southview for many years and she has become a well known fixture in our community. An expert in her role, Brenda will be missed by staff, students and families for her knowlege, skill, experience and caring approach in every aspect of her job.
You will be missed, Brenda, but we all wish you the very best as you move into your new role at Collin's Bay Public School. Congratulations on your great success! They are lucky to have you!
Southview's athletes are jumping into action this week with the Junior Boy's and Girl's soccer teams competing in their LESSA tournament on Wednesday September 23rd at John Machin Fields in Kingston. Our Senior Boy's and Girl's Teams will be participating in their tournament at John Machin one day earlier on Tuesday September 22. All teams have been practicing from the outset of the school year under the watchful eyes of their dedicated coaches! Good luck to all of our athletes and the travelling coaches, Mr. Dunleavy, Ms. Beaubien and Ms. Collins!

On Monday September 21st, our Grade 7/8 students will be participating in MADD Canada's presentation entitled "Trapped". Southview is proud to welcome MADD Canada to our school on an annual basis to deliver the important message about the perils of using drugs and alcohol while driving. Please connect with the school if you have any questions about this important event.
Two other very important events are coming up in our school calendar: the Welcome Back to School Open House and the first School Advisory Council - SAC (Parent Council) meeting both taking place on September 24, 2026. More information about each of these activities is provided in the sections below.
In addition, please consider becoming a member of the School Advisory Committee by completing the Nomination Form linked in the School Council section. If there is a role on SAC that you would like to fill but you do not see it listed, please indicate this in the comment section. There is room for everyone on the School Advisory Council and we need your support!

Please remember that drivers must come to a complete stop when a pedestrian crossing light (walking person or flashing hand/orange hand) is active, yielding the entire roadway until pedestrians safely reach the other side.

Our first meeting of the 2026-2027 School Year will take place on September 24th, 2026 at 6:00 p.m. in the Southview Library.
Southview Open House - Thursday, September 24, 2026 from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m.
The Southview PS Educator Team and students would like to invite all Lynx families to attend our "Back to School" Open House on Thursday September 24th, 2026 from 5-6 p.m. This event provides an excellent opportunity for parents and guardians to visit Southview PS have a look at your child's classroom and meet the teachers who are working with your children to help them achieve their academic, social and character development goals during the 2025-2026 school year. Many of our team members will be available, including class and planning time teachers, support professionals and administration, to answer questions about our school, the classroom routines and our plans for student achievement. Just a reminder that this is not an ideal time to speak to teachers regarding individual student achievement, however, out teaching staff are more than happy to schedule individual meetings at any time to discuss your child.
As an additional bonus, the Open House is running on the same night as the first School Advisory Council (SAC) meeting which all parents are invited to attend. The School Advisory Council meeting will run from 6:00 p.m. until approximately 7:30 p.m. in the school library and is your opportunity to have a voice at your child's school.
