Growing, Learning, and Achieving Together

Hello Lynx Families!

Wow! It has been a busy time here at Southview PS. over the last full week of September! It is hard to believe that we be into the first few days of October by the end of next week!

Last night, educators at Southview PS hosted an OPEN HOUSE to welcome all families to the new school year. It was wonderful to wander the halls and watch our students excitedly share their classrooms and work with parents, guardians, siblings, family and friends. The feedback from students and adults was overwhelmingly positive and the buzz from last night continued on into Friday. Thank you to everyone who attended this very special evening!

Our School Advisory Committee (SAC) met last night for the first time this school year, and we had a terrific turnout to participate in the Council elections and begin planning for the coming year. The parent representatives on the 2025-2026 Council are listed below (School Council Section), and we would like to thank everyone for their voluntary contirbutions to our school. At the next meeting on October 16th, 2025 (6:00 p.m.), we will be continuing discussions regarding issues such as our goals for this year, the Hot Lunch Program at Southview PS and about the Halloween School Dance that is tentatively scheduled for October 23rd, 2025. Stay tuned for more information to be shared in the coming weeks. Please consider coming to this meeting and hear more about the exciting plans for the students and families at Southview PS!

The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation takes place next Tuesday September 30th, 2025. This is an important day of thoughtful relfection for all of us, and students and educators from all classes will be participating in activities and learning about Indigenous culture over the course of the week. We are asking that all Southview students and educators wear orange (shirts if possible) on Tuesday September 30th to remind us that "Every Child Matters". Thank you for your participation in this commemorative event.

Our Sports Teams go into action next week with our Boys and Girls soccer teams competing on September 30th, 2025. These teams have been practising hard during recess periods over the past few weeks and they are feeling ready to go! Good luck to all athletes and coaches next week! Out Intermediate Baseball team is gearing up for their tournament which takes place on October 8th, 2025 and the Cross Country Team is travelling to Fort Henry for their races on October 14, 2025. Go Lynx!

We are making our way towards our fundraising goal of $4500 for the Terry Fox Foundation. Please consider making a contribution by using the link provided in the Terry Fox section below. Thank you for your generosity and supporting our effort to find a cure for cancer!

A quick announcement about our schoolyard. One of our play structures (the Red and Blue structure in the northeast corner) has reached the end of its time and is going to be removed in the near future. One of the many discussions that the School Advisory Committee will be engaged in is how we will plan to develop this area. We will provide more information about this project over the course of the school year.

We wish everyone a terrific weekend and a wonderful week ahead!

John Ricci, Jen Cole and the Southview Learning Team!

What Can You Do on National Day for Truth and Reconciliation? - YMCA of Owen Sound Grey Bruce

Each year, September 30 marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

The day honours the children who never returned home and Survivors of residential schools, as well as their families and communities. Public commemoration of the tragic and painful history and ongoing impacts of residential schools is a vital component of the reconciliation process.

Both the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day take place on September 30.

Orange Shirt Day is a commemorative day led by Indigenous communities to raise awareness about the intergenerational impacts of residential schools on children, families, and communities. It honours Indigenous children who were lost in the residential school system.

The orange shirt symbolizes the loss of culture, freedom, and self-esteem that many Indigenous children experienced. This day reminds us that “Every Child Matters”.

Please join us in wearing orange (a shirt if possible) on Tuesday September 30th, 2025.

Terry Fox Run

SOUTHVIEW PS Runs For Terry Fox

October 9th, 2025

Southview Public School is proud to take part in the 2025 Terry Fox School Run!

Since 2013, Southview has participated in 12 runs and raised a total of $44, 227.95. This is a proud history!

This year we have set a goal to raise $4500 prior to run day to support cancer research. Instead of using Pledge Sheets, we ask our students to collect from family and friends. We would also like to encourage families to use the online donation site specifically set up for Southview Public School. The site can be found at the following link:

Southview Public School

Alternatively, students can collect donations and bring cash or cheques to the main office. Please make cheques payable to the Terry Fox Foundation.

Thank you in advance for your support of Southview Public School and its efforts to support cancer research!

All student absences should be reported through the SafeArrival system. Please do not call the school directly to report an absence. You can use the SchoolMessenger app, the Safe Arrival website, or the toll free number (1-855-257-9349) to record an absence.
