Growing, Learning and Achieving Together

Hello Lynx Families!

We have arrived at the final week of the school year! Even though the weather is heating up ouitside, it is downright chilly in the school now that our new air-conditioning is working. We are working to adjust the temperature in order to find the perfect conditions for staff and students. We are very grateful to our school and board Facility Services Team for all the work that they have done to to provide this level of comfort to our students and staff. Just a word of caution for those attending school events over the next week (Graduation), the gym is now the only area of the school that is not air-conditioned! The following paragraphs describe what is happening around the school!

The Southview ATOM, BANTAM and SENIOR School Track Teams travelled to the Invista Centre on Tuesday June 9th to compete in the District Championships. Top performances occured in the following events: Bantam Girls 100m & 200m, Atom Boys 100m & 400 m, Bantam Boys 100m, 400m, 800m and the 4x100m Relay & Senior Boys 200m, 400m, 2000m, Shot Put and the 4x100 Relay. Gold medal performances were achieved by the Bantam Girls 4 x100m Relay Team, the Atom Boys 200m, the Atom Boys 4 x 100m Relay Team and the Senior Boys 100m. Congratulations to all athletes and coaches on a terrific competition and for representing Southview with pride and distinction!

The SAC Sponsored School Carnival was a huge success with the event earning a profit of approximately $1000. The School Advisory Council has enjoyed a fantastic year in 2025-2026 through their fundraising and community building efforts. We have all benefitted from the efforts of this dedicated and hard working group of individuals.

Thank you

A special shout out and tremendous thank you goes out to our SAC Chairperson, Amanda Morrision, who has worked hard to make this such a successful year. Thank you, Amanda! We appreciate you!

We sincerely hope that many of you will consider joining this amazing term next year! Please come out to our first School Advisory Council meeting on September 24th at 6:00 p.m.

Southview Public School has been celebrating an amazing group of young student leaders over the past week and the festivities will continue next week. Our Grade 8 Class of 2025-2026 will be graduating on Monday June 22, 2026. It is always bittersweet to say goodbye to a group of students that have grown up at Southview PS, but we know that they are well prepared to pursue their dreams in Secondary School in the years ahead. We wish all of them the best that the work has to offer always! Thye will alwys be Lynx and they will always be welcome at Southview PS.

Congratulations and good luck, Grade 8 students!

We are in the final stages of the school structure, staffing and class organization processes for next year. We know that we will be working through a few additional changes for next year and this will impact how we organize each class. Information regarding your child's class placement and class teacher will be made via an email that will be sent to all families in August, approximately one week prior to the first day of school. We recognize that this is different from previous years but our new practice will align us with the process as it takes place in most other schools within the LDSB. More importantly, it will allow us time to consider adjusting class structures over the summer as we adapt to any changes or additions that occur during the summer months. We work very hard to balance many aspects of school life when we are organizing classes and staff. Each change has a knock on effect and we adjust accordingly. Once we announce classes in August, most changes should be accounted for as opposed to announcing in June and then having to notify families in the summer that plans have changed.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work to ensure the success of all students and staff at Southview PS.

Good Bye and Good Luck

We are saying good bye to J.P. Gauthier at the end of June. J.P. has spent many years at Southview working in the Planning Time and Grade 4 Math role. J.P. has decided to move to a school closer to home and has landed at Elginburgh PS where he will take on the Planning Time and Grade 1 position. We all wish J.P. the very best of luck in his new role. Southview will miss you J.P.! Best to you always!

Congratulations

We are announcing the retirements of two of our most valued teachers! Melinda Gillam and Monica McLeod will be retiring from 30+ years of teaching at the end of June. We will be celebrating with Melinda and Monica over the coming weeks and wishing them all the very best the world has to offer in the years to come!

The Grade 8 Transition to Secondary School

High School Transition

Dear Families and Students,

The move from Grade 8 to Grade 9 is an exciting milestone in a student’s educational journey. To help students transition smoothly to secondary school, an extensive planning process takes place between December and August.

December - February

March - June

July - August

  • Grade 8 information nights for families (schedule available online)
  • Grade 8 classroom visits
  • Course selection
  • Grade 8 visits to secondary schools
  • Transition meetings
  • Grade 8 Day/Tours
  • Timetables sent to students
  • Grade 9 Orientation/Tours

Students will be automatically transferred to their home secondary school based on their current elementary school. You can find your child’s designated secondary school by visiting the Tri-Board Eligibility Lookup triboard.mybusplanner.ca/Eligibility  and entering your home address.

Students who wish to attend a Limestone secondary school outside their designated home school area must first complete registration and course selection at their designated school.

Families should then contact the requested secondary school directly to apply. If the application is accepted, your student’s course selections will transfer to the new school. Students applying will be placed on a waitlist and may be admitted before the start of Grade 9 if space becomes available. Transportation is not provided for students not attending their designated school.

Families of students with exceptional learning needs are encouraged to connect with their elementary school team to discuss programming options and supports for the transition to high school.

The Limestone District School Board offers Choices at 9 programs including Academic Arts Enriched Program (AAEP), Advanced Placement Preparatory Program, International Baccalaureate, and Bayridge Computer Science Program (BCSP). If you have any questions about this process, please contact your student’s elementary school or the school location of the Choices at 9 program. See key application dates below:

  • Plan and select courses
  • Explore occupations and post-secondary options
  • Record important information and reflections
